Collections in New Brunswick's
Public Libraries
Many of New Brunswick's public libraries have local genealogy collections.
Here are the descriptions of our most significant local genealogy
collections.

Albert-Westmorland-Kent Heritage Collection
The Albert-Westmorland-Kent Heritage Collection is a permanent
collection. Its purpose is to provide a profile of the
counties. In order to provide as complete a picture as
possible, the collection contains material relating to
history, sociology, geography, politics, literature, and
culture of the area. Various types of materials belonging
to the local genealogical society are also available. It
is located at the Moncton
Public Library.

The Campbellton
Centennial Library has census data, local yearbooks,
as well as copies of Generations, the journal of the New Brunswick
Genealogical Society. It has an index of relevant entries from
L’Évangéline (a French-language New Brunswick newspaper),
microfilm for various local newspapers from 1909 to 2004, a patron’s
handbook on using the Provincial Archives and much more!
L.P. Fisher Public Library Collection
The L.P. Fisher Public Library in Woodstock has created an extensive
list of many key genealogy research addresses. This index, which
is a great resource, has contact information for societies and associations
from the Atlantic Provinces and Canada to the United States of America,
Australia, the U.K., and Europe. It is available through the library.
Saint John Free Public Library Collection
Miscellaneous Index
The Miscellaneous Index was transferred from the New Brunswick Museum
to the Saint John Free Public Library in 1982. It contains a partial
index of newspapers, scrapbooks, microfilm and vertical files that are
of importance to both Saint John and New Brunswick.

This digital and text collection is a joint project between the University
of New Brunswick Libraries' Electronic Text Centre and the Saint John Free
Public Library. It contains digital images and text transcriptions of one
hundred 18th century documents from the Saint John Free Public Library
- Primary Source Documents Collection.
Searching for Your Roots in Saint John, New Brunswick
This English document is a guide to genealogy information specific to
the Saint John Free Public Library holdings. It was created by
a patron and local genealogist, Ruby Cusack. It can be accessed at the

Microfilm Collection
The Saint John Free Public Library has an extensive microfilm collection.
Resources available in the microfilm collection include census
data, important ship passenger manifests, probate records
and telephone directories. Some of the items listed in the
Saint John Free Public Library microfilm collection index (pages
85-132) are on permanent loan from the New Brunswick Genealogical
Society. A print index (in English) can be accessed in the
library.
York Library Region Collections
There are quite a few genealogy collections throughout the York Library
Region. Here are the most important ones:
Chatham Public Library Collection
The Chatham Public
Library has several unique genealogy resources. These
include local newspapers on microfilm, catalogued and uncatalogued family
histories, vertical files of local interest on notable people from the
Miramichi area and much more.
Doaktown Community-School Library Collection
The Doaktown
Community-School Library has census data, cemetery records, and
family histories available for genealogy research. Many of these
are specific to Doaktown and the surrounding area.
Fredericton Public Library Collection
The Fredericton
Public Library has a large collection of genealogy
resources. Some of the items to be found are census data, baptism, marriage
and burial records, local family histories, and books of local interest
to surrounding areas. A print index to the collection is available at
the library.
Médiathèque Père Louis Lamontagne Collection
The Médiathèque Père Louis Lamontagne collection
includes many genealogy resources specific to the local area.
It contains several Acadian family histories, genealogy dictionaries
and listings of important French Canadians from 1600-1900.
