Library Resources
Not only does the public library have resources to get you started, but
we can also show you the best resources and places to do your
genealogy research.
Although reference materials may not be checked out, you can
use these items in the library for as long as you need them.
You can also ask your public library to order items in for you
from libraries and bookmobiles throughout New Brunswick for free.
What’s more, your public library can order materials for you
from libraries and archives across Canada, such
as microfilm from Library and Archives Canada. This is possible through a library service called
Interlibrary Loans.

Quaestio
New Brunswick’s public libraries offer you an online ask-a-librarian
reference service – Quaestio. This service is for times when you
have a quick question and can’t get in to your public library or
bookmobile.
For tough or really in-depth questions, please come see us at your public
library or bookmobile to ask your question in person. Typically,
genealogy questions fall in this category – so please come visit
us!
To find us online, go to www.gnb.ca/publiclibraries.
Select your language of choice. You will then be redirected to our homepage. At
the top of the page, you will see a gold tab that will link you to Quaestio
and many other services. Click on the Quaestio tab and fill out the
form and submit your question to the provincial Quaestio team.
Local Resources
Many of New Brunswick’s public libraries have local genealogy resources. Some have even created guides to local, provincial, national, and international resources. To see if anything would be of interest to you, please browse through their descriptions.
Don’t forget to visit the New Brunswick Genealogical Society and
the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick websites! |
