  • Large Print, Talking Books and Other Formats

New Brunswick public libraries provide access to materials for individuals who have difficulty reading regular print. Alternatives to print include:
    • Talking Books - patrons who are print handicapped and cannot physically read a book are eligible to receive Talking Books on cassette. This collection is restricted to those patrons who can supply a signed certificate from their doctor explaining their physical inability to read regular print. This service is available through the mail for those patrons who are unable to come to their local library. Patrons who do not qualify for the service are eligible to borrow books on cassette. Inquire about this service at your local public library. Talking Books call numbers begin with TB.

There are 5 Talking Book Service Centres, one in each library region:

      Albert-Westmorland-Kent (Moncton)
      Chaleur(Campbellton)
      Haut-Saint-Jean (Edmundston)
      Saint John (Saint John)
      York (Fredericton)

    • Books in Braille Collection - the Fredericton Public Library has a small collection of children's books in Braille. They are available for loan with some restrictions. Contact the Fredericton Public Library for more information.
    • Large Print Books - are available in every library in the province. Large Print Books call numbers begin with LP. These books are ideal for patrons who have difficulty reading regular print books.
    • Books on Cassette or on Disc - many novels are available in cassette or disc form in either full length or abridged versions. Books on cassette call numbers begin with C. These items have no lending restrictions based on physical ability to read. Ask about them at your local public library.
