The New Brunswick Department
of Environment manages air quality monitoring in the province. The following
tips suggest ways that individuals can contribute to improved air quality.
 |
- To improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions,
keep your vehicle in good working order. Better still, take
it for a check-up at one of the New Brunswick Lung Association's
vehicle emission clinics. Don't idle your engine for long periods
of time, and avoid sudden starts and stops. Consider using public
transportation or organizing a car pool.
|
|
- Operate your woodstove at peak efficiency by
burning properly seasoned wood that's cut to fit the firebox.
Add a stove-type insert to an open fireplace, or replace an
older woodstove with an energy-efficient, EPA-certified unit.
Contact the New Brunswick Lung Association for more information
at 506-455-8961.
|
|
- Reduce energy use at home through improved insulation
and weatherproofing. Choose energy-efficient appliances wherever
possible.
|
|
- Compost fallen leaves, pruned branches
and other yard wastes instead of burning them.
|
|
- You can make a difference. Participate in the
Class 1 Air Quality Approvals review process, or in the setting
of New Brunswick's air quality objectives as they are brought
forward. Contact your regional Department of Environment office
when you are concerned about air quality.
