Subsidized Adoption Program

The Department of Social Development recognizes that families who adopt children with special needs are often taking on extraordinary demands and may require financial or other support to meet the child's needs. The Subsidized Adoption Program is based on the services required to meet a specific child's needs.

The Subsidized Adoption Program is available for children placed through the Department and designated as having special needs. The program provides payment for specific services related to the child's special needs, which may include respite, counselling or therapy, equipment, corrective dental treatment or medical expenses not covered by the parents' extended medical plans.
You will learn more about the Subsidized Adoption Program throughout the adoption process.
