VICTIM SERVICES

The Department of Public Safety Victim Services program provides the following services,
free of charge, to eligible victims in a criminal case:
- Assist victims with Court Preparation Program
- Information on how to prepare a victim impact statement
- Compensation for victims of crime
- Trauma counselling for victims
- Short-term counselling for victims
- Services for children, youth and their families
- Victim notification of release of provincially incarcerated offenders
- Victim Notification of Review Board Hearing and Outcomes for accused found not criminally responsible due to reason of mental disorder

VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) provides comprehensive health care services, including an extensive immunization program. All VON sites provide foot-care services in a clinic setting or in the home. The Fredericton and Oromocto sites each operate an Adult
Day Program which aims to maintain and improve the client’s ability to live independently in his/her own home. VON Saint John provides a Home Support Program - support at home for people that find certain activities of daily living a challenge.

VoicePrint is a non-profit, volunteer-driven reading service for the members of our
community who cannot access printed material due to, for example, blindness, vision
restriction, physical or learning disability, low literacy skills or just getting older.They are the primary service of Accessible Media Inc. Their mandate is to break the barriers to accessing printed information.
They can

Satellite - Shaw Direct – ch. 825, Bell TV – ch. 49 and 967, Look TV ch. 400, Digital Cable - Rogers ch. 190, EastLink Digital ch. 394, Cogeco ch. 596, Aliant ch. 998, online - www.voiceprintcanada.com and Basic Cable - on the secondary audio program (S.A.P.) of CBC Newsworld.
The Atlantic office produces the Headline and National News, the Atlantic Regional Report, Atlantic Afternoon, Atlantic Life, Atlantic Sports, PEI Report, Atlantic Arts and Entertainment and New Brunswick Today as well as the reading of local Supermarket ads and Maritime obituaries. The service is based on material clipped from the daily newspapers and read by their volunteers
They are also operating what is called a “Local Broadcast Centre”, LBC. It’s a web-based
service at www.voiceprintcanada.com. Services available in English.
VOLUNTEER CENTRES
Volunteer centres across the province recruit and refer
volunteers to non-profit organizations in their community that
request the assistance of volunteers. The assistance provided is
available to persons with disabilities.
