The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) is a provincial voluntary, non-profit organization with 6 Branch offices, 20 local associations throughout the province and our Community Collection Program Office.  NBACL is an advocacy and family support organization that works to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities are enabled to live, learn, work and play alongside people with no disability as valued and contributing members of our communities.  Information and training are provided to families and organizations relating to: childcare, inclusive education, employment, affordable housing, justice, transition from school to work, recreation, leisure, volunteerism and more.

The Saint John Association for Community Living operates an employment program for people with an intellectual disability in the Greater Saint John area.  The program focuses on:

  • providing orientation and training to employers and co-workers on strategies and techniques for training workers with intellectual disabilities and multiple barriers, on ways to accommodate and support workers;
  • providing training and education to assist the development of employability and social skills;
  • uses person/client centered planning approaches;
  • individuals in their last year or two of high school will be assisted with developing plans for successful transitions from school to work;
  • SJACL will assist to match skills and interests with employers and employment opportunities in the greater Saint John area.
