Premier's Council on the Status of Disabled Persons

Frequently Asked Questions

What's in it?
The 2011 Edition of the Directory of Services Offered to Persons with Disabilities in New Brunswick contains a descriptive list of services and programs offered by community groups and government to the people of the province with disabilities. We do not endorse private for profit services or products due to quality assurance and potential liability issues.

How do I find what I'm looking for?
All the information is presented alphabetically in each section of the Directory. The first section of the Directory includes information offered by the provincial government, followed by a section with programs offered by the federal government and then a section with programs offered by community groups.

We now have an index by general subject that follows the table of contents. This will enable users to search for a program or service based on a category, rather than by searching for the specific name of a program or a service. For those who already know the name of what they are looking for, the traditional alphabetical index can be found at the back of the Directory.

Is the information up to date?
The information contained in the Directory was gathered over the summer of 2011. Each government department and organization was contacted to verify their listing. If you find errors in any of the listings, or if you are aware of other services that could possibly be included in the Directory, please let us know.

How often is the information updated?
The online version of the Directory is updated as soon as we are made aware of any changes. Print-outs of the updates are also available on a regular basis; please contact the office for these.

Does the Council endorse the services listed in the Directory?
The Council is not responsible for the actual delivery of these services. It is not our goal to imply an evaluation or endorsement of the services listed.

I still can't find what I'm looking for, what should I do?
The friendly staff at the Premier’s Council on the Status of Disabled Persons are very knowledgeable and experienced in directing people towards the right program or service. Please call the office if you need additional guidance.

The Council also has a number of other free information resources covering other topics of interest to persons with disabilities. The information in the other directories is specific to certain topics. These can be found on the Premier's Council website or can be mailed.

Is the information available in alternate formats?
Yes, please call the Premier’s Council to let us know which format you need. We are promoting the use of electronic versions of the Directory to cut down on printing and shipping costs.

Can I photocopy the Directory?
Yes, we would encourage users to photocopy the information in order to share it with as many people as possible.

How much does it cost?
The Directory is currently offered for free.  The actual combined cost of printing and mailing a Directory is approximately $15.00.  Taking this into account, we hope that users will access the Directory online, which is always the most up-to-date version. We can mail a Directory on CD and hard copy print versions will still be available upon request for those who cannot access the electronic versions.
