New Brunswick is committed to providing innovative, quality health care. The Nursing, Physician, and Allied Health Worker Recruitment and Retention Strategies aim to ensure that there is a sufficient supply and the right mix of health professions.
The Nursing Resource Strategy, in place since 2001, aims at renewing health care and ensuring New Brunswickers have better access to the province’s health care system.
The Strategy includes various recruitment and retention initiatives available to practical nurses, registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
- NB Forgivable Loan Program for New Graduate Nurses
In response to the Collective Agreement between the New Brunswick Nurses’ Union (NBNU) and Board of Management, Nurses Part III, the objective of this program is to maintain New Brunswick nurse graduates in the province, especially where recruitment is difficult.
- Reimbursement of Tuition for Refresher Programs (RNs and LPNs)
Nurses and licensed practical nurses who have re-entered the workforce following completion of a refresher program can benefit from this initiative.
- Continuing Education – New Brunswick Critical Care Nursing Program
Through this tripartite agreement with the Regional Health Authorities and both Université de Moncton and University of New Brunswick, the Department of Health contributes to the preparation of nurses for the specialty of Critical Care Nursing.
- Student Nurse Practitioner Tuition Assistance
The purpose of the Student Nurse Practitioner Assistance Program is to help defray tuition costs for students enrolled in a recognized Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Clinical Supervision – Student Nurse Practitioners
This initiative provides remuneration for physicians who supervise student nurse practitioners.
