Policies

The Public Trustee has an extensive listing of operational policies and associated procedures that have been carefully defined to ensure consistently high quality services are provided to the public.

Case Management Policy

The Public Trustee has a team of experts working on behalf of clients to ensure financial and personal decisions are based on solid research and that decisions taken respect the client’s wishes where known.  Every effort is made to consult with known family members and involve them in the decision making process wherever possible.  Above all, the Public Trustee remains committed to ensuring the best interest of each client.

The Public Trustee liaises with community organizations and contracts with local businesses so the provision of external services is efficient and effective.

Investment Policy

An Internal Investment Committee monitors and reviews performance of the Common Fund, and advises the Public Trustee regarding investments strategies and specific cases where questions have arisen.

The Department of Finance acts as an investment partner for the Public Trustee to provide clients with investment portfolios that serve their best interests.

Fee Policy

Clients are charged a fee for all services provided to them by the Public Trustee.  Clients may also be charged for the services of external service providers when work is contracted out on their behalf. For example if a house needs to be sold, the client is responsible to pay Real Estate fees in addition to any fees payable for the activities of the Public Trustee.

If satisfied that hardship or unfairness will result from payment of a fee, the Public Trustee may reduce a fee.

Details of the fee structure can be found on our Fees page
