Symposium

As a part of the First Nations Child Welfare Review, the New Brunswick Child and Youth Advocate, Bernard Richard, will be hosting a Symposium that will take place from September 29th and 30 at the Fredericton Inn.

This Symposium will focus on the development and enhancement of First Nations Child Welfare across Canada through in-depth comparative analysis.  Attendees will include academics, provincial and federal government officials, First Nations Child Welfare agency directors and New Brunswick First Nations Chiefs, among others. Certain sessions will also be open to the public. Speakers and presenters will be invited in the near future. We are seeking to confirm participation and presentations by leading experts in First Nations child welfare.

The Symposium will be an opportunity for Mr. Richard, the Advisory Committee, the Research Team and the general public to be exposed to the experiences and expertise of some of Canada’s leading First Nations child welfare experts. It will also provide a forum for key stakeholders to participate in open and frank dialogue about the strengths and weaknesses of various programs and services currently offered to First Nations communities across the country.
