Approximately 3 000 licences are awarded in our July computer draw.
Over 50 000 hunters apply.
- You must be a New Brunswick resident.
- You must be 18 or older when you apply.
- DND & RCMP can now apply online.
- Each hunter may enter once per year.
- You can only hunt in one zone.
- You are not eligible if your fishing, hunting and trapping privileges have been cancelled.
If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1981 – or if you are a first-time hunter:
- You must complete a Firearm Safety / Hunter Education course.
If you are a bow hunter:
- You must complete a Bow Hunter Education course.
Conservation Education certificates from other areas are valid in New Brunswick. |

Buy your licence |
|
If you were successful in our resident moose draw:
A confirmation sticker will be mailed to the address provided by Medicare. Take this sticker to Natural Resources or Service New Brunswick to purchase your licence. At this time, you may choose a hunting companion.
Remember:
- Your licence is not transferable or refundable.
- You must carry your licence while hunting.
- It is void once the tag has been removed.

|
Transport firearms |
|
You can transport one gun:
- Two days before the season opens.
- Two days after the season closes.
This gun must be:
- In a case properly fastened.
- Wrapped and securely tied in a blanket or canvas.
Or:
- In the locked luggage compartment of your vehicle.
You cannot carry or use a gun that uses a rim-fire shell or cartridge.
You cannot have more than one gun in your possession.

Register your moose |
|
Once you harvest a moose, you must immediately:
- Remove the tag from your licence.
- Securely attach it around the base of the antler or through an ear.
By noon on the following Sunday:
- Take the whole moose to the nearest open office of
Natural Resources or a tagging station.
The registration agent may remove the lower jaw, teeth or other tissue.

You will receive two copies of the registration permit.

Give moose meat |
|
Want to give wild meat to someone? You will need:
Meat transfer permit
This is available at:
Service New Brunswick Natural Resources
You must present your moose registration permit at this time. |

|
Designated hunter |
|
When purchasing your licence, you may name another hunter to join your hunt.
- This ‘designated hunter’ must meet all licence requirements.
- The hunter must not have been successful in the current draw.
- He or she must be a New Brunswick resident.
- He or she must accompany you at all times while hunting. (You must be able to see or hear each other – without artificial devices.)
- Bag limit for your two-person party: One moose.
- You may hunt alone – But your designated hunter may not.
