Map Staking Project Update

Project Overview

• The Interim Map Staking system implemented in November 2008 is operational
• A program has been developed to assist prospectors in determining grid unit corner coordinates. Contact the Recorder's Office for details
• An Act to amend the Mining Act (Bill 76) received royal assent on June 19, 2009
• The Regulation that allows the start of applications for conversion of ground staked claims to map staked claims became official on October 1, 2009
• NB e-CLAIMS is currently being tested

Current Project Status

The following was completed in December:

• Drafting of regulations are nearly complete
• Updated NB e-CLAIMS Project Plan as required
• Completed work on NB e-CLAIMS web interface
• Continued updating claim maps on the web
• Sent conversion documentation to prospectors
• Performed testing on NB e-CLAIMS

Project Activities for January

In January, MPDB plans to continue work as follows:

• Complete drafting regulations
• Update NB e-CLAIMS Project Plan as required & prepare a plan to launch the application
• Perform pre-launch testing on NB e-CLAIMS
• Continue to provide in-house training to those clients who requested it
• Update claim maps on the web
