Targeted Geoscience Initiative
The latest Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI) is a five year, $25M
program that will focus on increasing the ore reserves of established
base-metal mining communities across Canada, including the Bathurst Mining
Camp (BMC) in northern New Brunswick. According to its mandate, TGI-3 will
“provide integrated geoscience knowledge pertaining to areas of high
base-metal potential, with the intent of stimulating private-sector resource
exploration.”
The objective in the BMC is to resolve the 3D geometry of the
ore-bearing “Brunswick Horizon” and to identify prospective parts of the
horizon that are within minable depths. In 2007, the following occurred:
- a new gravity map was released (GSC OF-5544),
- initial modeling of gravity and magnetic data was done in the
Chester area, and
- a 3D modeling project (MSc thesis) on the Heath Steele area was
completed
