Prospector Training
Introductory Prospecting Courses
The courses consist of two weekend sessions with instruction in
introductory-level geology and prospecting. Topics presented include:
- Introduction to prospecting and geology
- Mineral and rock-type identification
- Introduction to maps, aerial photographs
- General use of a compass
- Claim staking, recording and option agreements
- Geochemical sample collection and analysis
- Geophysical methods
Advanced Prospecting Courses
Topics presented in advanced-level courses vary from course to course.
Subjects covered in past sessions included:
- Geophysics (review of theory; main focus on fieldwork)
- Geochemistry (types of sampling, sample preparation, analysis)
- Geological maps and mapping (map features and interpretation,
field methods and data collection)
- Mineral deposits (types of deposits and how they formed)
- Marketing/promotion/evaluation (writing an option agreement)
