bullet Questions (FAQ)

In general

What percentage of New Brunswick's forest is old-growth?

The definition of old growth varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. If old growth is considered to be trees in the range of 200-300 years of age, then - after 400 years of European settlement - New Brunswick has very little old growth. However, based on our provincial inventory, approximately four per cent of the New Brunswick land base is covered by trees in the oldest stages of their natural development. This development varies from species to species. For example, for poplar, it would be rare to find trees in excess of 70 years of age. On the other hand, sugar maple and white pine can live to well in excess of 150 years.

Can I cut just one Christmas tree on Crown land or take a small tree from Crown Land and plant it at my home?

No, you can not cut a Christmas tree on Crown land nor can you remove a small tree (or any plant) from Crown Land.

Can I harvest wood, wreath tips, tap maple, or pick mushrooms on Crown land?

You can freely pick mushrooms, fiddleheads and berries on Crown land without a permit. However you are not allowed to harvest wood or tap maple on Crown land.

When will the next scalers course will be offered?
