THE ENERGY HUB
What is an Energy Hub? Why is New Brunswick often referred to as such? and, What does this mean for the people and businesses of New Brunswick?
When combined with "Energy", the term takes on a new dimension. An Energy Hub is a central marketplace where energy related companies, people, research, generation, distribution and related activities and projects are located. This gathering creates a natural attraction and serves as an incentive for others to locate and invest here.
We have a diverse mix of energy generation; an oil refinery and its related petrolem byproducts; nuclear electricity generation; hydro-electricity; bio-mass and combustion. Our generation capacities provide more than enough energy for our own consumption allowing us to market the excess.
Our commitment to the environment is illustrated by our goal to increase by 10 % the amount of renewable electricity used by New Brunswickers, through such sources such as wind, tidal and biomass by the year 2010. In addition, our energy efficiency programs are among the most progressive in the country.
We have the infrastructure and distribution systems to deliver this energy over urban and rural areas to households and industrial users not only in our own province, but to other regions in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and parts of the Eastern United States. We are geographically ideal to reach these markets. The demand for energy is increasing all over the world. Our location and the diversity of our energy assets are our competitive advantage, our opportunity.
