About The Department of Energy: PIPELINES, PETROLEUM, AND NATURAL GAS:
The Pipelines, Petroleum and Natural Gas branch is responsible for key legislation including the Gas Distribution Act, the Pipelines Act and the Petroleum Products Pricing Act. It is also tasked with following the status and progress of key projects in its sector, including Canaport LNG and Brunswick Pipeline. In addition, it aims at building and maintaining strategic relationships with other departments, other jurisdictions and industry players and associations. The branch also represents the department as an informal intervenor in natural gas or pipeline regulatory matters before the Energy and Utilities Board and the National Energy Board. The development of robust and forward-thinking policies and regulatory frameworks are important to the sustainable growth of energy projects that deliver natural gas and petroleum products to New Brunswick and exports markets. The branch conducts research and analysis of relevant industries, markets and trends in order to provide a good background and foundation for the policies, programs, projects and initiatives of the department.
