Dr. Robin Jeffrey FREng Robin Jeffrey was born in Scotland. He studied at Glasgow University (BSc, 1960) and at Cambridge University (PhD, 1964). Dr. Jeffrey has worked in the power engineering industry for more than 40 years, initially with Babcock and Wilcox where he was responsible for engineering research and development for the Hartlepool and Heysham 2 nuclear steam generators. In 1979, he joined the South of Scotland Electricity Board (now Scottish Power plc) and from 1980 – 1987 was the project manager for the construction of Torness nuclear power station. In 1992, Dr. Jeffrey became CEO of Scottish Nuclear Ltd., and in 1996, was appointed Deputy Chairman of British Energy plc formed by the merger of Nuclear Electric plc and Scottish Nuclear Ltd. In 1997, he moved to Ontario and was instrumental in setting up the new company Bruce Power Inc. with assets of eight nuclear reactors, formerly operated by Ontario Hydro. He was also President of AmerGen Energy Company LLC, a joint venture with Exelon, that acquired three nuclear plants in the U.S.A.. Dr. Jeffrey subsequently returned to the United Kingdom to be Chairman of British Energy plc and retired in 2002. In 2003, Dr. Jeffrey was appointed a member of the Review Panel, chaired by the Honourable Jake Epp, that investigated the reasons for the cost and schedule overruns on the restart of the four reactors at Pickering A in Ontario. Dr. Jeffrey is a visiting professor of engineering at the Strathclyde University and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He was awarded the Canadian Nuclear Association's prestigious International Award in 2002 for his contribution to nuclear power in Canada. |
