10 Fuel-Saving Tips

#1 . Keep your vehicle in top shape

Make sure that your vehicle is well maintained. Your air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs all play a key role in your fuel efficiency. Make sure your tires are inflated to their recommended pressure. Properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by six per cent.

#2. Watch your driving habits

Rapid acceleration and rapid braking waste gas. Speeding wastes gas. Accelerating gradually and avoiding jackrabbits starts can save up to 20 per cent in fuel.

#3 . Clean out the junk

Check your trunk for excessive weight that you don't have to be carrying around.

#4. Plan ahead

You can save a lot of fuel by planning your outings in advance – make one trip instead of several wherever possible and plan your trips whenever possible to coincide with periods of the day when traffic is low.

#5. Cruise Control

If your vehicle is equipped with cruise control, use it to maintain a steady speed when highway driving.

#6. Idling

You get zero kilometres per litre of fuel when idling so avoid excessive idling whenever possible.

#7. Car Pooling

Whenever possible join forces with friends or neighbours and car pool.

#8. Smart buyers

When you are going to buy a new vehicle, give consideration and inform yourself on the options available on the new fuel-efficient cars and vans on the market today.

#9. A/C

Use your air conditioner carefully as it plays a role in your fuel efficiency.

#10. Healthy choices

If you can walk or bike to a short destination, it's good for your health and you are using no fuel at all.
