Northern New Brunswick Infrastructure Initiative
Minister responsible
(Updated: June 2008)

As part of the government’s vision for a self-sufficient New Brunswick, the Province of New Brunswick created the $100-million Northern New Brunswick Infrastructure Initiative (NNBII) to ensure adequate infrastructure is made available for economic development in the Restigouche, Chaleur, Acadian Peninsula and Miramichi regions.

Under the management and co-ordination of the Regional Development Corporation, the NNBII will provide incremental assistance of $100 million towards strategic infrastructure investments over a four year period.

The NNBII will support projects which build a stronger northern economy by:

  • upgrading key transportation infrastructure;
  • creating stronger links between producers and their markets;
  • investing in communications technology;
  • supporting strategic industrial parks; and,
  • developing infrastructure that supports our resource industries, key sectors and new opportunities.

The NNBII will fund strategic investments in the priority areas of:

1. Transportation Infrastructure

  • Railways
  • Airports
  • Ports
  • Roads
2. Business Infrastructure

  • Broadband
  • Industrial Parks
  • Infrastructure supporting Competitive Resource Industries (CRIs) and Key Economic Sectors
3. Strategic Infrastructure (in support of new economic development opportunities)

The NNBII expires March 31, 2012.
