Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission

Provincial Electoral Quotient:
When dividing the province into electoral districts, the Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission is required to ensure that the population of each electoral district is as close as possible to the provincial electoral quotient. The current provincial electoral quotient was obtained by dividing the total population of New Brunswick of 729, 498 (based on the 2001 census) by the total number of seats (55). The provincial electoral quotient is 13, 263

Deviation from Provincial Electoral Quotient:
No electoral district can have a population higher than 14, 589 (or 10% over the provincial electoral quotient). The lowest population that an electoral district may have is 11, 937 (or 10% below the provincial electoral quotient) unless the Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission determines that there are extraordinary circumstances that justify a lower number.
