David J. Johnstone, P.Eng., FEC
Deputy Minister

David J. Johnstone is a native New Brunswicker and graduate of UNB in Civil Engineering.

A long-term employee of the N.B. Department of Transportation, Mr. Johnstone was appointed to a number of positions during his career, including District Transportation Engineer, Director of Technical Services, Executive Director of Operations, and Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Highway Engineer. He was appointed Deputy Minister of the Department in 1998.

Mr. Johnstone is President of the New Brunswick Highway Corporation, President of the Trans-Canada Highway Project Co. Ltd and Chair of the New Brunswick Transportation Authority. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick, a member of the APEGNB Discipline Committee, a member of the University of New Brunswick Department of Civil Engineering Advisory Board, a past President of the Transportation Association of Canada and a past Chair of the Council of Deputy Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety. Mr. Johnstone was named a Fellow of Engineers Canada in 2009.
