A total of 14 Regional Heritage Fairs were held throughout New Brunswick during the months of April, May and June 2009.
Organized at the district level by elementary, middle and high schools, New Brunswick's Regional Heritage Fairs provided a quality learning opportunity for students to present their social studies research on provincial and national history. From a total of 139 participating schools, students came together at Regional Heritage Fairs to present hands-on, multi-media projects about Canadian people, legends, milestones and achievements.
The students were recognized for their achievements through a series of awards sponsored by New Brunswick's heritage community, and six students were also selected to attend the National Histroica Fair taking place this summer in Ottawa, Ontario (July 7 - 13, 2009).
Teams of embedded student reporters documented the activities of each Regional Heritage Fair.

New Brunswick’s Heritage Fair Program is part of a national education project developed to increase awareness and interest in Canadian history. In New Brunswick, the program is an initiative of Heritage Branch in the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport. Support is also provided from New Brunswick’s Department of Education, Canada’s Historic Places Initiative, the New Brunswick Museum, New Brunswick`s Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, the New Brunswick Advisory Council on the Status of Women, the Council of Archives New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages and the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. |
