Mandate

Archaeological Services is responsible for the comprehensive cultural resource management of the Province's archaeological heritage. This responsibility includes protecting, preserving and interpreting New Brunswick's non-renewable archaeological resources. Archaeological Services' functions include overall coordination, licencing, collection management , heritage resource impact assessment, salvage, product development, research and liaison with First Nations on heritage issues. Archaeological Services provides professional and technical expertise to work with industry, municipal, provincial and federal agencies, with First Nations, communities, non-profit groups, and individuals.

Objectives

Archaeological Services strives to foster better stewardship of New Brunswick's non-renewable archaeologicalresources, enhance our cultural diversity, facilitate solutions to cultural resource conflicts, continue developing positive relationships with First Nations over cultural issues, increase knowledge and awareness of New Brunswick's archaeological past and develop products based on this heritage.
