Local Historic Place Designation
Throughout New Brunswick, there are many places that exhibit local historic significance. The Heritage Conservation Act allows for local decision making regarding the identification and recognition of Local Historic Places in municipalities and in unincorporated areas. Local Historic Places are listed on the New Brunswick Register of Historic Places and the Canadian Register of Historic Places. Through the Act, municipalities, working with local heritage groups, are able to identify and recognize Local Historic Places in their communities. Also, the Act allows for Local Historic Places to be designated in unincorporated areas by the Minister responsible for the Heritage Conservation Act.
