Historic Places Section also administers the New Brunswick Register of Historic Places, a searchable database of listings of designated provincial and local historic places in the province. Listing on the provincial Register is the first step towards listing on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.
Thousands of years of history have resulted in a great breadth of historic places in New Brunswick. Historic places are all around us and even below us. Historic places in our communities may range from grand buildings to modest structures. Historic places may be only forms on the ground or remnants on the shore where important events took place or where industrial activities were undertaken. Perhaps they are ceremonial or sacred places that have evolved over time. In all cases, they are places that speak to us as New Brunswickers about who we are and where we come from. These historic places illustrate our heritage and our cultural diversity.
