WellnessIn order for New Brunswick to realize its potential to become a self sufficient province, we need to invest in becoming a healthy and well province. Many communities, organizations and individuals are already working hard to make a difference, to make New Brunswick stronger, healthier and more prosperous. The original Wellness Strategy was introduced in 2006 to help promote better connections and provide support to facilitate further action to improve wellness within the province. Live well, be well. New Brunswick's Wellness Strategy (2009-2013) is an enhanced four-year strategy that builds on the previous wellness strategy. It is intended to accelerate progress on wellness in New Brunswick schools, communities, homes and workplaces. It responds to needs, addresses gaps and limitations of the original Strategy and builds on new opportunities and trends. The enhanced Wellness Strategy also answers many of the recommendations made by the Select Committee on Wellness.
The enhanced Wellness Strategy focuses on interrelated goals or pillars related to healthy lifestyles: Mental Fitness & Resilience has a higher profile in the enhanced Wellness Strategy. Improved mental fitness & resilience is fundamental to improving healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco-free living. There is considerable evidence that satisfaction of mental fitness & resilience needs (autonomy, relatedness and competence) creates readiness for such healthy lifestyle choices.
