The integrity of your electrical systems and appliances safety has been compromised if submerged during a flood. To prevent a fire and electrical hazard, the following shall be carried out.

any light switches, thermostats, receptacles, light fixtures, electric heaters, ceiling fans, etc. |

furnace burner and blower motor, ignition transformer, relay (oil furnace and oil hot watertank). |

furnace blower motor, electric relays, elements (electric furnace). Domestic hot water tank electric, oil, or propane. |

all breakers, fuses, fuseholders, disconnect switches and panels if submerged. |

all boxes that hold devices such as thermostats, switches, receptacles, lights. |

all wire nuts at all wire connections. The conductor splices are to be taken apart, cleaned and rejoined. |

all appliances, sump pump, washer, dryer, dehumidifier, vacuum, tools, exercise equipment. There are many switches, motors, and transformers that will be corroded.
any electrical equipment if submerged as the above noted items may work and appear safe once you have moved back into your premises. However, corrosion will have already taken place and failure is imminent. Failure can be in many forms such as electrocution or fire.
certified appliance repair technicians and licensed electricians shall do all repairs so you and your family can feel safe that all repairs are now safe to re-energize your electrical system and equipment.
Please call your local Electrical Inspector at any Department of Public Safety, Technical Inspection Services office for clarification on any items or for an inspection of damage of the electrical system.
