Mandate
Erectors and Welding Ltd. – Donald Robert
Mandate Erectors and Welding Ltd. views the NB Apprenticeship program
as a critical part of the welding and fabrication industry. Apprenticeship
provides greatly needed experience. The "hands on” approach
prepares the apprentices early and ensures a higher level of quality
production and productivity. These are key to our industry’s
future success.
McCain Foods Ltd. - John Walker – Maintenance Manager
The apprenticeship program existed when I started with
this company 25 years ago and we have extensively used many of the
development programs available. The time had come that employers
were in need of tradespeople with a much broader scope of abilities.
The apprenticeship program met this demand.
Midway Kenworth Limited - Kendell Pelkey
Apprenticeship training has been one of Midway Kenworth’s
greatest training aids. It has been the arena from which the majority
of our technicians come. Apprenticeship training allows us to train
technicians over time. This reduces the burden placed on our shop
when people are out on training.
Saxon Electric – Darren Sutherland
After my five years of apprenticeship were over, I obtained
my journeyperson qualifications and started my own company. That
was 16 yeas ago…Now I work with the program to bring employees
through the apprenticeship program so that they too can become journeyperson
electricians. I have started people right off the street and seen
them through to getting their license. I think that with the apprenticeship
program, employers have an easier time finding employees who are
truly interested in the trades.
Apex Industries - Paul Leger, Journeyperson
Machinist
The partnership between employer, apprenticeship program
and employee helped me get my diploma of apprenticeship and certificate
of qualification. After working in the trade with the same company
an opportunity for a management position became available. I moved
from the position of Shop Foreman to Production Manager.
Department of Training and Employment Development - Jean-
Marie Michaud – Journeyperson Carpenter
Apprenticeship opened doors for me. I started out as a
Carpenter apprentice, became a certified journeyperson. I went from
being a company foreman to owning my own construction company. Now
I am working with Apprenticeship developing curriculum and exams
for apprentices.
