Abstract:The New Brunswick Soil and Crop Improvement Association with funding from the Strategic Partnership Development Program in co-operation with the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture conducted small grain and soybean cultivar evaluation trials at Grand Falls, N.B. in 1997. In separate replicated small plot trials, 30 lines of spring wheat , 30 lines of six-row barley, 30 lines of two-row barley, 9 lines of normal oats and 5 lines of naked oats were planted at Grand Falls on May 29 - 30, 1997. At the same date and location the Atlantic Soybean Performance and Registration trials were planted with 30 and 25 entries respectively. There was also a six-row barley screening trial planted at the Grand Falls site. These trials are part of the Atlantic testing system for small grains and soybeans. In addition to the recognized testing system, several private seed companies provided lines of each specie for evaluation. Data from these trials are used by the Atlantic Field Crop Committee to recommend lines for registration and recommend cultivars for commercial production in Publications 100B and 100D.
