Abstract: In 1998 eight farms produced a total of 320 acres of hybrid canola seed for two companies Zeneca Seeds and Plant Genetic Systems. All farms were successful achieving acceptable seed germination, purity and hybridity. Seed vigor was lower than anticipated but can be attributed to a very wet conditions while the canola was in the swath. Seed size was very large ranging from 5 - 6 grams per thousand. Clean seed yields ranged from 423 - 1,051 lbs per acre averaging 800 lbs. Most farmers that participated in the project were satisfied with the results and plan to grow canola seed in 1999.
