Abstract: Corn: In on farm corn trials at 3 sites in New Brunswick in 1999 corn maturity levels reflected the high accumulation of CHU's experienced across the Province. The averages for yield and dry matter of the whole plant silage were 12.88 t/ha at 38.0% dry matter in Sussex and 14.2 t/ha at 31.8% dry matter in Grand Falls. The average moisture of the High Moisture Ear Meal in Cornhill was 6.08 t/ha at 25.74% moisture. Managing legumes for forage and silage: In 1997 a series of forage mixtures were established on a beef farm in Norton NB. Data was collected in 1998 however the project was not continued in 1999. Ryegrass seed production: A cultivar evaluation trial to determine the seed yield of 18 varieties of Westerwold annual ryegrass was established in Hartland NB on May 5, 1999. Plots were harvested on three different dates (July 28, August 4, and August 6) with seed yields (t/ha) ranging from 0.25 to 1.12 t/ha. Recommended legume species demonstration: This trial was established in Richmond Corner NB on May 31, 1999. Four species are being evaluated; red clover, white clover, alfalfa, and birdsfoot trefoil. No data was collected during the establishment year. Data collection will commence in the 2000 growing season.
