  Optimization of a PCR Method for Fingerprinting Potato Varieties

Abstract: An optimized protocol for fingerprinting potato varieties with SSR-PCR (PCR of the microsatellite DNA region) for the patatin gene was developed using appropriate reaction conditions (7 °C lower than Tm temperature). The optimized method can unambiguously distinguish the three potato varieties Shepody, Russet Burbank, and Niska tested whereas the widely used unoptimized method could not.
