Abstract: Three trials ( 2 small plot, 1 fields scale) were established to evaluate the effect of applying Casoron 4G to both sanded and non sanded cranberry beds. Visual ratings on crop injury and weed control were collected throughout the summer on the two small plot research trials. Cranberry yields were collected from all trials. In the small plot research trial on sanded beds, Casoron was evaluated at 26, 58, and 90 kg/ha respectively. Results indicated that Casoron rates above 26 kg/ha caused significantly higher visual crop injury throughout the season. Although yields were reduced from the higher Casoron rates, differences were not considered significant. On the larger field scale trial Casoron applied at 56 kg/ha out yielded the 26 kg/ha rate when applied on sanded beds, but differences were not considered statistically different. No differences were noted between any of the Casoron rates and level of weed control. There did not appear to be any significant benefit in applying Casoron rates above 26 kg/ha on sanded beds at this site. In the small plot research trials conducted on non-sanded beds, Casoron was evaluated at 51.6, 83.6, and 115.6 kg/ha respectively. Results indicated that Casoron rates applied above 51.6 kg/ha caused significantly higher visual crop injury throughout the season. Yields from Casoron applied at 51.6 kg/ha (22.2 barrels/acre) and 83.6 kg/ha (22.5 barrels/acre) were almost identical. Yields were reduced as the rate increased to 115.6 kg/ha (13.1 barrels/acre), however. On the larger field scale trial (non-sanded beds) the 56 kg/ha Casoron rate (33.6 barrels/acre) out yielded the 84 kg/ha Casoron rate (27.7 barrels/acre), but differences were not significant. No differences were noted between any of the Casoron rates and the level of weed control. There did not appear to be any significant benefit to applying Casoron above 51.6 kg/ha on non-sanded beds at this site.
