Abstract: We report on the progress to develop and refine flavonoid extraction technology for the production of natural phytochemical products from wild blueberries and other Vaccinium species. Though a proprietary commercial process was found to reduce flavonoid recovery over that of lab-scale technology, it did produce a highly concentrated, anthocyanin-rich extract. Wild blueberries were also found to contain significant amounts of colourless flavonoids and extracts of these were produced. We also report on trials to blend three Vaccinium species in various mixtures. Several of these extracts are being submitted to a battery of bioassays.
