Abstract: For a forage cultivar to be placed on the "Forage guide to Variety & Mixture", Publication 100A, a cultivar must meet or exceed the yield of the check cultivar for a set number of years. In 2004, data was collected from trials of alfalfa, white clover, kura clover, red clover, timothy, and perennial ryegrass throughout the Atlantic Provinces. 2003 Regional Perennial Ryegrass total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 4.40 to 4.60. Lowest and highest yielding cultivars were PSGG9-04 and Bastion, respectively. The 2003 year Regional Timothy total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 7.70 to 8.80. Lowest and highest yielding cultivars were Farol and Richmond, respectively. The 2001 year Regional Alfalfa total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 7.31 to 8.43. The highest yielding cultivar was Renaissance and the lowest yielding was Starbuck. The 2001 year White Clover total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 2.99 to 4.39. The highest yielding cultivar was Norstar and the lowest yielding was Milkanova. The 2002 year Red Clover total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 4.68 to 6.29. The highest yielding cultivar was AC Endure and the lowest yielding was CRS 15. 2003 Alfalfa total dry matter yield (t/ha) ranged from 7.56 to 7.79. The highest yielding cultivar was Apica and the lowest yielding was AC Caribou.
