Abstract: Outdoor container production of ornamental plants may have production issues with weeds around the
potted plants. Growers typically have a stale–seedbed approach, with multiple herbicide application in
preparation to lay out plants after application. A trial was established near Northampton, New Brunswick in the spring
of 2008, within an area devoted to commercial container–bed production of chrysanthemum. No crop injury was
noted from any treatment. Weed control was variable across the trial area. All herbicide treatments had a high level of
weed control two weeks after application. Over subsequent ratings, weed control had declined for glyphosate alone,
acetic acid and napropamide plus glyphosate treatments while flumioxazin and flumioxazin plus glyphosate retained
higher weed control levels. Flumioxazin extended the period of weed control later into the production season than the
commercial standard, or any of the other treatments examined and should be examined further.
