Judges' Tips for an
Award Winning Entry
  • Write concisely and to the point;

  • Substantiate anecdotal comments with facts and data;

  • Use bullet points;

  • Add selective quotes from Guest/Visitor books or letters of appreciation TO your entry, wherever appropriate;
  • Add photos;

  • Use graphs, charts and matrices, where appropriate;

  • Cross reference supporting material to your Microsoft Word Document entry (so Judges do not have to search for it);

  • Do not forget to write each question before the answer, and to start each question on a new page;

  • Get somebody not related to your business to read your entry (before it is submitted) and critique it;

  • Clearly mark all supporting material with your entry details (ie Business name, name of category entered). Include description of images;

  • Dividers are optional. If used, they must be blank ie they must not carry images or text. They may be numbered for example "Question 1";

  • Do not laminate pages.  They are too hard to read and Judges only have a limited amount of time per entry;

  • Make sure your entry (when bound) can remain open without assistance;

  • Use good quality plain paper.   Soft colours are OK but not paper with flecks/ patterns;

  • Throughout the year, maintain a record of things you have done, to prepare for next years' awards.
