NB Tourism Product Development Branch

Reporting to the Executive Director of Tourism Development and Operations, the Product Development Branch provides leadership in tourism product development to all New Brunswick tourism industry operators. The Branch is responsible to execute the 2009-2012 Product Development Direction and is responsible to foster the development of year-round, consumer focused tourism products that deliver an exceptional New Brunswick experience to visitors.

Product Development staff work closely with tourism organizations, municipalities, funding partners, and other government departments to guide the strategic development of the tourism industry. The Branch plays a strong role in advocating issues on behalf of the tourism industry and provides guidance on key issues affecting the tourism industry as a whole.

The Branch is also responsible for coordination of the following programs and initiatives:

  • the Attractions Classification Program
  • the Tourism Excellence and Innovation Awards
  • the Be New Brunswick Approved accommodation program
  • Tourism development project evaluations
  • Tourism Development Guidelines
The Branch partners with and provides support to:

  • The Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB)
  • the Atlantic Canada Acadian Tourism Commission
  • the Bay of Fundy Tourism Partnership
  • the Economusée Network of Atlantic Canada
  • Tourism Atlantic’s Best Practices Missions Program
  • Industry participation in the Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST) experiential tourism programs
The Product Development Branch is comprised of a Director, a manager responsible for the northern part of the province and one for the south, product development officers assigned to specific regions and headquarters staff responsible for tourism policy and program management.

The managers’ primary responsibility is to lead the implementation of the 2009-2012 Product Direction for their areas, and the Product Development Officers are responsible for working with Tourism Operators to develop and enhance quality tourism products/experiences.
