Underemployed Workers
Our underemployed represents a good pool of workers. According to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey 2006 annual average, 50,900 New Brunswickers were underemployed. This group is comprised of discouraged searchers, those waiting for work (recall, replies and long-term future starts), and involuntary part-timers (would prefer full-time work).
Discouraged searchers (1,300+) are people not looking for work because they believe that there are no jobs available. The Waiting group (7,000) is not looking for work because they are awaiting replies from prospective employers or because they were waiting to be recalled to a former job. Involuntary part-timers (5,200) represent the group that would like to work full-time, but can only find part-time employment.
