Grand Manan Island -Divers Journey
under the sea and stay completely dry.
Beneath the surface the Bay of Fundy is teeming with a variety of marine life, but few people ever see it. That's all about to change. This summer Grand Manan Divers and Adventures will take you under the sea while keeping you completely dry!
James and Holly Ellis of Grand Manan are offering a marine tour with a difference. Using an underwater marine TV system, James will show passengers a variety of underwater phenomenon as he dives into the depths of the Bay of Fundy.
Scallop beds, sea urchins, herring weirs and a lobster nursery... just some of the things visitors are guaranteed. For some lucky folk, even a whale or shark here and there. From above you won't want to miss the chance to spot peregrine falcons, or the scenic wonders like the Hole-in-the-Wall, or the Seven Days Work. "Anyone can do this," says James. "I can show people everything that I'm seeing and they can ask questions through the communications equipment. They can experience all this from the safety of the boat." The Coast Guard approved boat will sail out of the scenic fishing community of North Head twice a day. For land-lovers, Holly said that the boat stays inshore, away from the choppy seas. Unlike most tours this trip won't be hampered by fog. The boat is equipped with rain slickers for all 12 passengers, and the fog won't effect what goes on underwater. James explained the importance of a "rain-or-shine" tour. "Grand Manan is a very beautiful place, especially when the weather's good, but since we can't always control that we have to make the best of what we have. We want to make sure tourists have a pleasant time and want to return."
Striking out into "uncharted waters" with this one of a kind tour has been exciting for James and Holly. Their enthusiasm is contagious. "I'm really looking forward to the summer because I enjoy meeting new people from different walks of life," says James. "I'm very proud of what we have on Grand Manan and I think that everyone will leave here with smiles on their faces."
