FREDERICTON (CNB)-- To promote the start of the strawberry season in New Brunswick, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture is once again partnering with the Canadian Blood Services at one of its annual blood donor clinics. It takes place today and tomorrow, July 2 - 3, at the RCMP 'J' Division building in Fredericton.

"This is an important activity because it intices people to give blood as well as promote New Brunswick strawberries," Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister David Alward said. "Instead of the usual cookie after a blood donation, participants will be able to enjoy delicious strawberries."
The strawberry industry in New Brunswick was worth $2 million in 2002. "New Brunswick farms about 227 hectares of the delicious high quality red fruit because of the hard work of 140 producers," Alward said.
