Information session for backyard poultry flock owners (08/06/11)

MONCTON (CNB) -- Owners of backyard poultry flocks are invited to a free information session on Tuesday, June 17, on how to help prevent and detect bird diseases such as avian influenza.

The Province of New Brunswick and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are hosting the session, which will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture office, 381 Killam Dr.

Representatives from the CFIA and the provincial government will be available to answer questions.

A series of presentations will also be held, examining how to prevent the spread and introduction of disease and how to spot poultry illness and how to respond a disease is detected.

Additional sessions are being held across Canada later this year.
