FREDERICTON (CNB) - Members of the military, emergency organizations and government agencies who helped farmers along the St. John River during this spring's flood were treated Tuesday to a barbecue hosted by Agriculture and Aquaculture Minister Ronald Ouellette at the department offices in Fredericton.
"It never ceases to amaze me that, in such times of emergency, we can count on individual New Brunswickers to immediately drop what they are doing and offer their time, expertise and resources to help their fellow residents," said Ouellette. "All of these people went above and beyond the call of duty, helping our farmers in this time of need. I felt it was important and appropriate to acknowledge their efforts."
The minister extended special thanks to military personnel from Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. During the height of the flooding in May, soldiers from the base assembled a military barge to help transport livestock to safety.
