FREDERICTON (CNB) - Federal, provincial, and territorial ministers of agriculture will hold their annual meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., July 9 and 10. Agriculture and Aquaculture Minister Ronald Ouellette will represent New Brunswick.

The meeting will give the ministers the chance to discuss, among other things, Canada's ongoing commitment to the sustainability and growth of the agriculture industry, including support provided through the Growing Forward agreement.

"We are working to develop a strategy for farmers in New Brunswick that will enhance the ability of agriculture to play an important role in our government's goal of achieving self-sufficiency," Ouellette said. "We want to ensure that, where possible, national programs support our objectives."

The ministers will also discuss agriculture and food traceability, food safety, the federal Agricultural Flexibility Fund, and the Business Risk Management Strategic Review.

New Brunswick has more than 3,000 farms and 100 processing plants producing more than $1 billion worth of agri-food and beverage products annually.
