FREDERICTON (CNB) - Federal, provincial, and territorial ministers of agriculture will hold their annual meeting in Saskatoon, Sask., July 7 and 8. Agriculture and Aquaculture Minister Ronald Ouellette will represent New Brunswick.
The meeting will give the ministers the chance to discuss the future of the agricultural sector and review issues about how to involve the sector in developing the next policy framework.
"We have accomplished a great deal over the past few years, and I look forward to discussing how we ensure we continue to address the issues faced by farmers in New Brunswick and across the country," said Ouellette. "With the recent release of New Brunswick's agriculture strategy -
Transforming Agriculture Together, I will be very attentive to how we can best work with the federal government to strengthen our agriculture sector for the benefit of all New Brunswickers."
The ministers will also discuss science and innovation, food traceability, food safety, market access, and latest trade developments.
At the conclusion of this year's annual meeting, New Brunswick will assume the role of co-chair for 2010-11.
The agriculture and agri-food industry is diverse in New Brunswick, combining more than 2,700 farms with 100 processing plants to produce close to $1.2 billion worth of agri-food and beverage products each year.
