Alcool NB Liquor showcases select high-end spirits at Canada's oldest whisky show (08/11/18)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Alcool NB Liquor, together with the Whisky Tasting Society, will present the 13th annual N.B. Spirits Festival, Nov. 20-21, at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton.

Formerly known as the Whisky, Spirits and Liqueur Festival, the new event features 167 premium products, including whiskies, rums, vodkas, gins, liqueurs and other deluxe spirits.

Mixology classes and special tastings of premium Scotch whisky and cocktails will launch the festival on Thursday, Nov. 20. On Friday, Nov. 21, an Introduction to Nosing and Tasting Whisky session and a seminar on setting up a home bar will precede the three-hour festival showcase from 6:45 - 10 p.m. Over 20 exhibitors of fine quality spirits and gourmet food will be on hand, and Alcool NB Liquor will have an on-site store set up to sell holiday gift packs and products featured at the festival. The store hours are 7 - 10:30 p.m.

Featured products, including rare and special allocation scotches, include the 32-year-old Balvenie Vintage Cask 1976, Highland Park 40, Brora 30, Glen Ord 30 and Linkwood 30. For a detailed list of products and prices, visit www.anbl.com.

Tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door, and are available at select Alcool NB Liquor stores, The Lunar Rogue, Westminster Books and the Delta Fredericton. At the end of the Friday night show, patrons of the festival will receive a complimentary taxi ride within the Greater Fredericton area.

Thursday, Nov. 20

Cocktails - Victoria Room A, 7 p.m.

A selection of unique cocktails and spirits demonstrated by professional mixologist Derick Weeks. Identify what tools and supplies you need, and learn how to prepare cocktails at home.

The Macallan - Governor's Room A, 6:30 p.m.

Marc Laverdière, malt whisky ambassador, will host a special tasting of several fine single malt whiskies from The Macallan portfolio.

Bowmore/Auchentoshan - Governor's Room B, 6:30 p.m.

Jamie MacKenzie, brand ambassador for Bowmore Distilleries of Islay, Scotland, will host a nosing and tasting of Auchentoshan and Bowmore single malt whiskies of various ages.

Highland Park - Governor's Room A, 8:30 p.m.

Marc Laverdière, malt whisky ambassador, will present a number of whiskies, from Highland Park distillery, for.nosing and tasting.

Gordon & Macphail - Governor's Room B, 8:30 p.m.

Nicole Hizzett, export executive for Gordon & MacPhail, will offer a sampling of unique single malts from Scotland's oldest independent bottler.

Friday, Nov. 21

Introductory Workshop to Whisky Nosing and Tasting - Victoria Room, 6-7 p.m., $15 at the door

A pre-show event. Members of the Fredericton Whisky Tasting Society will guide individuals through the art of nosing and tasting, unlocking the secrets of the world's greatest spirit. This one-hour seminar will help participants appreciate the extensive selection to be offered at the festival showcase. Five single malts will be presented and tasted.

Cocktail Workshop - Victoria Room, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., $15 at the door

Taste a selection of unique cocktails and spirits, demonstrated by a professional bartender. Learn what is needed and how to prepare them in the home.
