ST. STEPHEN (CNB) - A total of 50 new jobs will be created by the expansion of Ganong Brothers Ltd.'s St. Stephen facility, Premier Shawn Graham announced today.
"Our government is proud to invest in the jobs created by the expansion of Ganong Brothers Ltd., and in its efforts to expand its production capacity," Graham said. "I am confident that continuing to build strategic partnerships such as this one will help New Brunswick achieve its goal of self-sufficiency by 2026."
Graham was joined at the news conference in St. Stephen by David Ganong, president of Ganong Brothers Ltd.; Minister of Fisheries Rick Doucet; and St. Stephen Mayor Allan Gillmor.
"We are pleased to be in a period of business growth," Ganong said. "The financial support by the province will ensure the capital needed to expand our manufacturing capabilities, provide year-round employment to our current workforce, and increase our employment."
Graham announced that the Government of New Brunswick will provide Ganong Brothers Ltd. with a $375,000 forgivable loan and a $2-million term loan to assist with capital costs incurred by the company's facility expansion, and with new production equipment that will increase the operation's production capacity. The facility currently employs more than 300 people.
"This announcement is part of our government's effort to be a leader in economic development and job creation," Graham said. "We are committed to supporting our New Brunswick companies, and it is encouraging to see Ganong invest in its operations. By supporting this sector of the economy we are helping it to modernize, to be innovative, and to upgrade technologies in order to better compete in the global marketplace."
Ganong Brothers Ltd. was founded in 1873, and is a manufacturer of chocolates, sugar confections, and portable fruit snacks for the Canadian, U.S., and international markets.
