MONCTON (CNB) - The provincial government is supporting First Canadian Title's efforts to create 50 jobs in addition to its current workforce of 28 in Moncton. Premier Shawn Graham made the announcement today.

"We know that investing in opportunities for people to earn a steady paycheque is fundamental to building a self-sufficient New Brunswick," said Graham. "We know that good, solid jobs that pay a living wage give people the confidence they need to invest in themselves and their communities. We are very pleased to see First Canadian Title make this clear commitment and investment in the people of Moncton."

The provincial government will provide First Canadian Title with $6,200 for each of the 50 full-time, permanent positions created. The assistance will help pay for training, equipment and expansion. The company will offer a competitive wage and benefits package. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a financial and / or legal environment.

The agreement is the result of the government's ongoing efforts to attract investment, which have included face-to-face meetings between the premier and company executives at their Ontario headquarters during the last few months.

Graham was joined by Business New Brunswick Minister Greg Byrne and Patrick Chetcuti, president of First Canadian Title.

"I am very proud to see this company grow and prosper in New Brunswick, especially in this difficult economic climate," said Byrne. "This company's confidence in our province and our people is proof that our investment strategies are working, and that word is spreading among Canada's corporate leaders that New Brunswick is the place to be successful in business."

Chetcuti said the province's educated and bilingual workforce, along with its highly competitive business climate, helped convince First Canadian Title to expand in Moncton.

"First Canadian Title has been very pleased with its investment in the New Brunswick community to date, and we hope to continue to grow and expand in the province," said Chetcuti. "Our shared commitment to innovation, customer and employee satisfaction and loyalty, operational excellence and corporate social responsibility offer the fundamental building blocks for continued growth and prosperity."
